Many people today are living in an unsafe environment!

In the winter in the Northeast the problem gets worse as people keep their homes closed up during the cold weather. It is a perfect environment for allergens and germs to multiply and wreak havoc on peoples’ systems.  If they have any respiratory or similar symptoms it can really compound the problem.

Now is the time to prepare your environment for the coming months ahead. The first thing that should be done is to clean your heat duct system if you have a hot forced air furnace. This is the number one cause of respiratory illness in the indoor winter environment. We completely clean and disinfect your heating system so that these allergens are eliminated. We also recommend that you have an electrostatic filter put in to trap the particulates that get sucked through your system.

The second thing you should have done – clean your carpets.  The carpets are the filter for the home.  Think about it, everything that travels on the air currents sweep through your carpet fibers. That is why there are black lines under closed doors. It is the pollutants that get trapped when the air passes under the door. Just think of all the filth that you walk on with your shoes and then track it into your home and onto to your carpets. 

Then there are the dust mites that are thick under our beds. If you don’t believe me, pull out a bed and check the baseboards. You think that is dust. Well, think again, most of it is dead skin that shed from us and is eaten by mites. In a five year life of a pillow 20% of the weight will be made up of dust mite excrement. That’s a pleasant thought!

Your carpets should be vacuumed at the minimum of once a week and cleaned using a truck mounted hot water extraction system two times per year spring and fall. It is a great idea to have your mattresses cleaned and disinfected as well.

Upholstery is another major concern. It collects dust and pet hair, if you have cats or dogs that you allow on your furniture.  Children also contribute to soiling upholstery.  You certainly want to create a healthy home environment not only for yourselves but for all your family members.  Orientals and area rugs should also be cleaned o a regular basis.
